Twilight star wants role to sink teeth into

Robert Pattinson is "annoyed" by the parts he is offered.

The 23-year-old star – who shot to fame playing vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight - claims he is rarely given roles which test his acting abilities.

The star complained: “Annoyingly, there are so few parts I feel I can add anything to, or that I want to do. Acting is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life.

"I don't want to be an actor for the sake of it. I don't find any particular pleasure in being an attention-seeker."

Robert admits he is intimidated by his newfound fame, insisting he thought the film adaptation of Stephanie Meyer's vampire drama would be "something really small".

He added to AnOther Man magazine: "It's strange because even though the figures show that the books were successful and sold millions of copies, you couldn't even buy them in London.
"Hardly anyone I knew had read them.

"I had no idea at all. I'd seen my co-star Kristen Stewart in Into the Wild and some of the director Catherine Hardwicke's other films, and that's all I thought it was, something really small.”

Interview with a vampire

Ask Robert Pattinson how he's handling the global hysteria that now surrounds him and he says:

"All right, I hope." Then he runs his hand through that tousled mop of his (a sign that he's anxious) and adds: "It's still sort of new."

It's almost 12 months since the first Twilight film was unleashed on the world.

Twelve months since we clapped eyes on the sensitive, tortured and fiercely handsome vampire named Edward Cullen from Stephenie Meyer's massively popular novels.

Twelve months since Pattinson, the 23-year-old British actor who plays the red-blooded teenage vamp, became an international heart-throb.

One minute he has a bit part in two Harry Potter films (he played Cedric Diggory in The Goblet of Fire and The Order of the Phoenix). The next he's the object of every teenage girl's affections.

They're screaming right now outside his hotel room. He's in France to promote The Twilight Saga: New Moon , the follow-up to Twilight (there are four novels in all).Whenever he goes near the window to smoke, a crescendo of noise erupts from the street below.

"To be honest, I still don't really understand what's going on," he says. "Like yesterday, I was having lunch down the road. We were in this place for a couple of hours and suddenly there was like 400 people outside on the street. It was just so nuts and it's like that all the time now."

If Pattinson hasn't come to grips with the global hysteria by now, how will he cope when New Moon is released next month?

"When the second one comes out, then I'll see how I am. Mostly I can ignore things to quite a big extent and kind of pretend they're not really happening," he says, sounding eerily calm. "I just don't take any of it seriously. It's just a job and while it's a job I love, girls scream out for Edward, not Robert. I still can't get a date." Pattinson has been peddling this line for months. He won't fess up to dating Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart, who plays Bella. Perhaps he's under studio instructions to appear single? It probably boosts ticket sales.

The real reason Pattinson is so calm is simple: "I'm not the lead in the second film. Taylor [Lautner] is." He grins idiotically. "I appear in Bella's dreams. So I'm in it but the focus is not on me. I just have significant moments at the beginning ... and the end. So I'm more of a supporting role in this one, which is why I felt so free. I didn't have to deal with any of the bullshit of the first one. I don't have to hold the movie or worry about the fans. I think I did it better without all those pressures."

Pattinson is extraordinarily beautiful. He's been called the Johnny Depp of his generation and been crowned Sexiest Man on the Planet by Glamour magazine, Top Hunk by Entertainment Tonight and Hottest Actor by Rolling Stone. Like Depp, he has the same asymmetrical beauty, the same gorgeous man-boy face.

He's 185 centimetres tall, lean and he, too, exudes a masculine femininity. Depp also started out as a teenage idol before he began furiously deconstructing that image. Ditto for Pattinson.
"After Harry Potter I could have done a lot more teen movies," he says. Instead he starred as a young Salvador Dali who has a bromance with poet Federico Garcia Lorca in this year's Little Ashes.

"I had to do all these hardcore gay sex scenes, when I haven't even had a sex scene with a girl in a film yet," he laughs. "I'm lining up so many different films so it'll be harder to just label me the vampire guy."

Those include Remember Me, with Aussie beauty Emilie de Ravin from Lost, and Unbound Captives, a western set in 1859, which stars Hugh Jackman – but more on that later.
Before Twilight, Pattinson was on the verge of quitting the acting game in favour of music. "With acting, a lot of the time you're doing scenes you don't really relate to and you don't really know why you're being cast half the time," he laughs.

He "understood" music. He's been playing the piano since he was five. He composes and sings. It's second nature. Acting isn't. He still feels "awkward in front of a camera".

Pattinson has a lovely voice and performed two songs in Twilight – something he now regrets. "When the first film came out I felt like a complete tosser," he says. "It looked like I was trying to be cool or something, like Eminem. You know, be in a movie and then do a song for the soundtrack. But I didn't look cool, I just looked ridiculous."

Pattinson's lack of self-confidence is staggering yet endearing. Compliment his singing and he'll change the subject. Compliment his performance and he'll tell you you're bonkers. But he'll stick to acting for now only because he'd "starve to death" as a musician.

Pattinson has two older sisters – Lizzy, a musician, who's in the band Aurora; and Victoria, who's in advertising. His father imported classic cars and his mother worked for a modelling agency. It was his father who encouraged him to pursue acting (to meet girls).

So he modelled, did some amateur theatre and British television. But now he has to go. A plane is waiting. He yawns and looks tired.

So how does he unwind? "I don't really need to do stuff to relax or get away because all my interests are part of my job," he says.

"Like I'll watch movies to be inspired to do other movies. I read books to be inspired. I listen to music to be inspired to write music. Everything I do is to create something."

Pattinson's next film is Unbound Captives. He met Jackman in Japan recently for a little bonding ahead of the film. "We went karaoke singing," he laughs. "We were singing Abba songs, it was pretty funny. It was sort of an Abba song sing-off, you know, last man standing."

Who won? "I think he did, only because he can drink more than me and still sing in tune. He's a cool guy and I'm really looking forward to that film."

So are we.

The Sexiest Man Alive meets the Sexiest Man on the Planet – now that should be interesting.
The Twilight Saga: New Moon opens on November 19.

NOTES

Pattinson chain-smokes during the interview. About halfway through, he runs out of cigarettes. He decides to pop out into the hallway to see whether he can "bum" one from a passing hotel guest.

When the French hotel staff, who are normally cool, calm and collected, lay eyes on him, they turn into an adoring mass of autograph-seeking fans. Pattinson has to make a quick dash back to the safety of the room.
He's clearly unnerved by the run-in.

Spoilers From New Moon Illustrated Companion

***SPOILER ALERT!!***

The New Moon Illustrated Companion not only has over 95 pictures but provides some interesting facts about the movie including some spoilers.
If you want to read ahead there is more after the break or just look away now and pretend you didn’t see this post….just scroll up to the top and look at Emily, Jared and Embry and those the muffins

**While filming the breakup scene in the forest Rob and Kristen were being swarmed by mosquitos.
**When Melissa Rosenberg wrote the Twilight screenplay she “tried to keep the fan base out of (her) head, but (she) couldn’t avoid it by the time of New Moon.”
**She gave the men in Port Angeles motorcycles to make it a more “significant moment” and because motorcycles will become “an important part of her relationship with Jacob”.
**Taylor began working out immediatly after he was done filming Twilight because he knew of the transformation his character would go through. He was able to show the producer’s that he was visual able to represent the changed Jacob.

**In all the “vision” sequences Edward is wearing the same outfit he does when he said “goodbye” to Bella because that is the last memory she holds of him.

**Even the cameras used and their movements are done to show the relationship between the characters.

**They scouted many locations for the Cullen house, but found one that “was comparable enough with the house in Portland.”

**The Cullen house used for Twilight was “a very specific house, and the only way out of that puzzle for us was to put portions of the story of New Moon in other parts of the house”.

**The sequence for the birthday partyl “Edward relates the history of the Volturi to Bella, she becomes wounded in the hand, and Edward faces off against Jasper.”

**Rob quote: “The birthday scene at the Cullen house is like the ideal birthday party. The house is beautifully decorated and everyone is happy. Edward is looking at Bella and thinking that she can become part of his family and his life–that maybe this can work out the way he wants it to.”

**They used the Blue Ray DVD of Twilight to help them with the age, color, texture and features of Bella’s house and room.

**They used the Twilight Illustrated Companion for help finding Bella’s truck.

***OK MAJOR VISUAL SPOILER HERE:***

One special challenge for the production team was how to convey Bella’s depression once Edward departs. In the books..the month pages do it. (October, November, December, January) In the film the passage of time is represented with visual effects. Bella sits in her chair in the bedroom and a camera circles around here while the seasons change outside her window.
**Another shot manipulation, instead of Bella running to her truck and driving home after seeing the wolves in the meadow, she runs out of the woods and tells Charlie immediatly that she saw them. Changes made to make the scene more efficient.
**The dreamcatcher stirs up emotions in all the major characters: Jacob says it will catch bad dreams. Edward is irritated that his rival gave Bella an intimate gift, and Charlie regrets that it stops working.
**Film Editor Peter Lambert edited a portion of the film during his daily commute. This may be the first major motion picture in which the bigest protion of the first assembly of the film was edited in the backseat of a car.
**As a sign that Bella is commited to Edward her clothes are linked to his color wise. After he leaves she doesn’t pay much attention to her appearance.
**They wanted Jacob’s house to be “like a stepping stone into the forest world”. So it’s further from the heart of the reservation.
**Emily and Sam’s house is deeper in the forest, more seperate from regular life.
**art director Cathrerine Ircha helped make sure the prodcutions maintained “fan friendly continutiy”. She kept an eye on fan sites and blogs .
**when they are rebuilding the bikes there is a montage of scenes.

Rob & Kristen Dreading New Moon Promos ??

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will travel the world in November to promote Twilight sequel New Moon – and they’re dreading it!

The couple — currently filming the third Twi flick, Eclipse, in Vancouver, Canada — are apparently not looking forward to being quizzed about their romance.

“Rob and Kristen love the acting; but they hate everything else — the publicity and hype — that goes with the Twilight franchise,” a source told a tabloid.

“They’re dreading giving interviews because they know people will try and ask them about their relationship.”

New Moon hits theaters on November 20.

Meanwhile, insiders have insisted there is “no truth” to rumors Rob and Kristen are heading Down Under for a tour of Australia.
(damn i really want them to come to Australia)

Gossip Cop = Win!

Full update on the ROBsessed post from earlier:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, “Twilight” fans. We heard you – loud and clear.

Tips poured into Gossip Cop headquarters about “Robsessed,” an allegedly “all-access” DVD about the life of Robert Pattinson.

Many supporters of RobsessedPattinson.com – who Tweets as @ROBsessedBlog – brought to our attention the site’s claim that Revolver Entertainment, the company behind the DVD, had lifted material from their site to market the unauthorized DVD.

Gossip Cop called Revolver for comment. No one we spoke to in the Los Angeles office would say anything beyond asserting that the “content” of the DVD is completely original. We’ve asked for further comment from producers in the UK office. Still waiting, and we will let you know as soon as we hear.

NOW – in the course of writing this post, it appears as though the matter has been at least temporarily resolved. If we’re reading our Tweets correctly, Revolver has pulled the, um, “similar” wording from their online platform.

That said, here are three points:

1. We find the unauthorized and often invasive exploitation of stars for profit to be heinous, especially when, as in this case, those stars have been particularly scarred by interactions with the media.

2. We’re very encouraged to see fans stand up to shameless profiteering, especially when the offending party has wronged not only the celebrity, but also the fans who put time and effort into content without intending to make a dollar from it.

3. From what we can TELL, the first two points apply to today’s events. But we want to be very careful about assigning blame without cause. So if we’re missing some key information, please let us know. We would love to hear Revolver’s side of the story, if there is one.

But it sure seems shady to Gossip Cop.

In the end, what we want is fairness – for stars, for the fans who enjoy their work, and from the media who cover them.

We will follow the “Robsessed” story as it develops.

'Zombieland' Star: I Have a Copy of 'New Moon'

Attention crazy "Twilight" freaks: There's a copy of "New Moon" floating around out there ...

and "Zombieland" star Jesse Eisenberg says he's already got his hands on it.Yesterday at LAX, Kristen Stewart's "Adventureland" co-star told us the vamps vs. werewolves flick, which doesn't come out 'til late November, was in his bag -- and he'd be watching it on the plane.

Don't be surprised if, after this posting, Jesse gets chased down worse than Robert Pattinson at Comic-Con..
